THE NOTE
LA NOTO
This song holds a place in my own library that nobody else can see from the outside. Normalised by age, it is the one I replay most — 0.403 plays a day against 0.218 for second place. Raw play counts lie: a song that has been alive 354 days and one that has been alive 30 cannot be compared straight. Divide out the age and the whole ranking inverts. That is when this one surfaced.
What is more interesting is that it is not alone. My three leading songs — this one, When You Are Old, and Eternal Summer — share one signature: a Bollywood voice on classical literature. One is a mountain road in Yunnan, one is Yeats, one is a Shakespeare sonnet. The subjects are half a world apart and the sound is identical: Hindustani ornament, slow, emotionally thick, never showing off. It took me several hundred songs to see that line.
Krudaj nombroj mensogas: kanton, kiu vivas 354 tagojn, kaj kanton, kiu vivas 30, oni ne povas kompari rekte. Dividu for la aĝon, kaj la tuta listo renversiĝas. Tiam tiu ĉi supreniris.
Pli interese estas, ke ĝi ne staras sola. Miaj tri ĉefaj kantoj — tiu ĉi, When You Are Old kaj Eterna somero — kunhavas unu subskribon: bolivuda voĉo sur klasika literaturo.
▸ Lyrics in English
The moon comes over the mountain road, a silver bangle sounds,
and you step out from behind the banana leaves into the dusk.
The river runs like a ribbon past the old village gate;
I sing your name to the wind that comes up from the south.
If the far country is the Ganges and home is the Lancang,
one flute wakes the moonlight on both sides of the water.
Don't hurry to answer. I won't ask when you return.
Let what is on our minds glow quietly in the dark.
Moon over the mountain road, lighting your eyes —
half of it is the south, half of it is long ago.
I hear a drum far off, like you calling softly,
carrying my heart out past the hills.
Moon over the mountain road, wind through the silver chain —
half of it is this world, half of it is a vow.
If in this life we can only look across the water,
let me sing this love as far as the sky.
Lamps still awake in the bamboo house, rain stopped at the eaves;
you pinned a red flower onto my yesterday.
I have walked through cities, through ten thousand crowds,
and still cannot forget the look you turned and gave me at the end of that road.
The moon comes slowly down in front of the bamboo house.

La rivero fluas kiel rubando preter la malnova vilaĝpordo;
Lampoj ankoraŭ maldormas en la bambudomo, la pluvo haltis ĉe la tegmentrando;

This is the prompt text exactly as it went to the model. The hard part of writing a style prompt is never what to put in. It is what to cut.
