William Lee traces a lifetime of listening through Suno 3.0, Suno 5.5, more than 3,000 outputs and about 200 published works he personally wants to promote—and explains why human ears still make the final decision.

01 · WHY MUSIC

An Art That Can Travel Through a Life

I once said: ‘When you love a passage of music, a song or a melody, it can echo in your ears for decades, even for a lifetime—and remain new each time you sing it. No other art form has the same power to penetrate an entire life cycle and become so intertwined with living.’ This is not a universal ranking of the arts. It is the truth of my own experience.

A book ends and a film leaves the screen, but a melody can return when no player is running. It follows us into a car, a walk, a sleepless night or a kitchen. The song heard decades ago is still the same song when it returns today, yet it is no longer the same, because the listener has changed.

02 · OUTSIDE THE DOOR

I Revered Music and Still Felt Outside It

I have always revered real artists. Music stood above other arts in my imagination because it could touch the heart without first asking for explanation. That reverence also made it seem unreachable. I could listen, compare and be struck by a melody, but I could not easily imagine myself taking part in its creation.

The distance was not only about theory or instrumental skill. The musician stood on stage, the work lived on a record, and I remained in the audience. I carried decades of listening memory without a band able to turn a half-formed feeling into sound. Questions such as ‘What if it were sung this way?’ had nowhere to go.

03 · THE IMPULSE TO PARTICIPATE

Suno

Suno Gave Me More than a Button

The strongest change Suno brought was not simply speed. It shortened the psychological distance between listening and making. For the first time, I felt that accumulated listening experience could enter creation: a melodic direction, a relationship between voices, a literary text or a cultural collision could become audible quickly enough to be judged.

I began with covers and style collisions. Copyright limits soon taught me that participation could not remain an endless rearrangement of other people's work. To continue, I had to move toward original lyrics, themes and judgments—and to take responsibility for the failures as well as the rare successes.

04 · SUNO 3.0

From Suno 3.0 Onward, Failures Outnumbered Breakthroughs

I began sustained original experiments during the Suno 3.0 period. It was never a straight line in which better technology automatically produced better art. Many outputs merely resembled songs: their sections were complete and their voices attractive, yet no character stayed in the memory and no melody returned by itself the next morning.

A chorus might rise without carrying new emotion. A sophisticated voice might not belong to the person inside the lyric. Every Chinese syllable might be pronounced while the sentence itself failed to breathe. A visible cultural element might remain decoration. A rare breakthrough sharpened my hearing for all the ways the earlier attempts had failed.

05 · COLLISION AS JUDGMENT

A Style Collision Is Really a Collision of Judgments

Bollywood, Mediterranean, world music, minority-inflected routes, opera, rock, classical Chinese poetry, English and American poetry, French and Esperanto have all entered the experiments. Those labels do not make a work. An instrument prompt, a place-name or a rhythm cannot produce cultural exchange by itself.

The real collision happens in judgment. Can Chinese words survive a longer melodic line? Does an old poem re-enter life or merely receive an antique costume? Does a virtual singer remain the same character across language and genre? Cyber is a male-tenor virtual singer; rock is one style he can enter. Confusing the two allows an effect to swallow a person.

06 · SUNO 5.5

Suno 5.5

Suno 5.5 and Agent Assistance Expanded the Scale

By the Suno 5.5 stage, agent assistance with comparison, checking, organisation and publishing allowed more routes to move at once. Songs, music videos, virtual singers, albums and working notes that once remained scattered began to form an archive people could search, hear continuously and navigate by relationship.

Scale does not remove the need for ears. It increases human responsibility. Tools can locate duplicates, organise metadata, check duration and build a publishing route. They cannot answer why a particular version deserves to remain, whether I want to hear it through to the end, or whether it still stands after novelty disappears.

07 · 3,000+ TO ABOUT 200

More than 3,000 Outputs Led to About 200 Published Works I Want to Promote

Looking back across the practice, I estimate that it produced more than 3,000 outputs. About 200 works have been published on Suno and are works I personally want to promote. That number is not a boast about volume. It means sustained experimentation has created a public body of work larger than the part the website currently presents.

An output, a candidate, a published work and a work already incorporated into the site are different things. The auditable two-site baseline currently contains 91 complete songs and 91 complete MVs. It must not be inflated into a claim that all 200 are mirrored, but it must not become a ceiling either. Good published songs should keep entering the archive.

08 · THE HUMAN GATE

My Leader and I Make the Final Call; the Gate Protects Good Songs

I use parameters, tags, version records and automated checks, but no score makes the final decision. A human ear has to finish listening. In the end, the work moves forward when my leader and I accept it. That judgment is personal, and that is not a flaw. Without preference, hesitation and insistence, art collapses into a computable average.

The ledger and release gate should stop a forty-five-second excerpt from impersonating a complete song. They should catch dead links, wrong versions and false attribution. They should not become an administrative maze that keeps already approved, promotable songs hidden. Discovery can be generous; release verification must be accurate. Its purpose is to carry good work safely into public view, not to replace human aesthetic judgment.

09 · LOVE CAN BLUR JUDGMENT

Loving a New Version Can Also Narrow the Ear

The joy of creation is powerful. I may replay a new version many times because of an unexpected melody, a new voice or a cultural combination. Repetition can also narrow judgment. Familiarity may feel like quality, invested time may feel like value, and private excitement may be mistaken for a response every listener will share.

That is why I sometimes stop and return later. Real readers, site behaviour and listeners from different backgrounds can join the next round of choice. Love is not an exemption from review. Caring for a song means allowing it to meet a cooler ear.

10 · WHY WEIYANG SOUND

As the Work Grew, Scattering Became Its Own Form of Waste

Published Suno songs, YouTube and WeChat Channels MVs, multilingual editions, virtual singers, album series and process notes lose value when they remain isolated in platform timelines. Listeners cannot see where to enter or how one song leads to another.

Weiyang Sound is not a display case for how many styles AI can imitate. I want it to be a music house. Someone may enter through a Chinese slow song, classical poetry, Yeats, Dream of the Red Chamber, Lu Xun, French or Esperanto. Someone else may first recognise Lingwan, Mary, Cyber or Male Slow and follow a voice across a whole series. The site gives works, characters, cultural origins and complete duration a shared architecture.

11 · THE 45-SECOND LESSON

What Forty-Five Seconds and Twelve Selections Taught Me about Delivery

The site once stopped a beautiful song after forty-five seconds. It also asked twelve selected works to carry the claim of a formal mirror. Both failures made the same mistake: an entrance was confused with a work, and a sample with a complete archive.

The v5 China mirror established the first fully verifiable baseline against the main site at that moment: 91 complete songs, 91 complete MVs, 91 covers, 32 creative essays, 45 work notes, plus series, singers and navigation. That was not an endpoint. It was a floor that future releases must not fall below—and a floor should support expansion, not hold back the larger published catalogue.

12 · AI IS THE INSTRUMENT

AI Is the Instrument; Cultural Work Is the Long Project

I do not want every page to repeat AIGC as a slogan, or every song to carry an exhausting technical genealogy. Necessary boundaries around source, rights, language and culture must remain clear. Their purpose is to let a work stand securely, not to let explanation overpower music.

The long project is cultural: old and new writing can meet, Eastern and Western languages can take turns carrying melody, virtual voices can become continuing characters, and ordinary listeners can find a song worth finishing without first learning specialist vocabulary. AI is a powerful instrument. What deserves to be sung, how cultures are treated and how music enters life remain human work.

13 · EVER NEW

Remaining New Each Time We Sing Is Why I Continue

A song that lasts does not give the listener the same feeling every time. In youth it may sound like distance; later it becomes choice, and later still it may carry someone who cannot return. The melody has not changed. Life has added another harmony.

Suno allowed a lifelong listener to enter creation. Agent assistance helps organise large-scale experiments into a navigable archive. The first reason remains unchanged: I want to make songs that return after the novelty of the tool has left; songs that accompany walking, driving, sleeplessness and memory; songs that can be sung years later and still feel newly understood. That is why music.
